Bmw E46 Clutch Switch Wiring Diagram

  1. How To Wire the Clutch Switch from DME??

How can i wire the Clutch interlock Switch straight from the DME? I dont have the wiring that comes from the clutch switch to the DME. I cannot start car because i need to fool the DME to make it think the i am pressing the clutch.

Is it possible to do the clutch switch bypass from pin 23 on the DME? or can i Do a Push Button start Mod to start the car?

  2. are you trying to install a remote start?

first what sort of switch is the clutch? simple toggle? hall-effect? mag? proximity? chances are you can just add a jumper (not sure if it switches 12v + or ground) if you want, and send ignition power, or a relay that grounds to the aforementioned pin 23.

  3. He's posted elsewhere. He's swapping out an auto trans for a manual. The DME wants to see the clutch pedal depressed before it will allow the car to start. He needs to jury-rig it.

I'm pretty sure in that case, wiring it so that it thinks it's in park or neutral works fine.

yes, that method works. but to retain cruise control and such, a clutch switch must be added

I'm pretty sure it's not the same switch though... I don't have to press the clutch to start the car, but I still have cruise and it disengages when I press the clutch in.

  7. did you buy your car as an automatic? ^

  8. I would suggest you swap the DME or code/flash it to manual gearbox. Then you can get the OEM clutch pedal and switch and follow the WDS to wire the clutch switch.

That's why your cruise control operates correctly.

as for the op, lucky for you I have been planning a 5 speed swap of my own and can help you out some. while I am not positive about the m52 setup, with an m54, in a pre 03/2001 e39

the upper 2 pin clutch switch next to the brake light switch will have a blue/brown wire that needs to be connected to pin 23 of the X60004 socket on the dme, and a black/brown wire that needs to be grounded to X217 under the LH side of the dash on the steering column. This is the switch that cruise control uses.

The second clutch switch (shiftlock switch) is lower and engages when the clutch is fully depressed and it is the switch that tells the ews that it is okay to start the car. This switch will have a brown/black wire that needs to be grounded to X1108 in the drivers side footwell under the carpet, a blue/black wire that needs to be connected to pin 8 of X1659 on the EWS module. The third and final wire on this switch is purple/white and needs to be connected to pin 76 of the 90 pin connector for power from the F38 fuse

keep in mind that this research is specific to the m54 e39, though it will be very similar to the wiring of the m52, i cannot promise that it is exactly the same. This link should help you tremendously

If your car was made before 09/1998 however, everything except the link will be irrelevant to you. In which case you can use the link to get all the information you need, its all there.
